As indicated by the title there were two games from the NBA tonight. The first was a preview of a possible playoff matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics and the second game featuring the Portland Trailblazers visiting the Utah Jazz.
1. The Bulls topped the Celtics in Chicago by a score of 97-81. This wasn’t a statement game or anything like that but this was a game that mattered to both these teams. At least it mattered to Chicago who finished the game with all it’s starters on the floor. Can we finally put the Derrick Rose MVP thing to rest? Rose should be the MVP. Period. Lebron has had a monster year, I get that and I understand that but, Derrick has been playing out of his mind all season long. His Bulls sustained injuries from the start and he led them to victory no matter what. Mean while down in Miami whenever Dwayne Wade has been unhealthy or out of the lineup entirely, Miami fails to win games. I digress, Derrick Rose had 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists. He was supported by teammates Luol Deng who had 23 points and Carlos Boozer with 14 points. Paul Pierce led all Celtics in scoring with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field. Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen had 7 points each shooting a combined 6 of 21 from the field.
2. The Trailblazers were able to impose their will on the weaker Utah Jazz 98-87. Despite showing bright spots in the game the Jazz were simply unable to matchup with the defensive intensity of Portland. Gerald Wallace is proving that come playoff time he is going to be a factor for the Trailblazers. Brandon Roy appears to be showing signs of progression shooting 5 of 8 from the field with 11 points. Rudy Fernandez still can’t hit the broad side of a barn as his shooting slump continues. He made no shots and scored no points. Devin Harris had 26 points and 5 assists in the loss.
