The NBA has a couple of games on tonight. This is probably so as not to compete with the MLB’s opening day. These games however do have playoff implications and very likely have NBA Finals implications as well. Firstly the San Antonio Spurs take on the Boston Celtics. San Antonio has lost four in a row with a starting lineup that has been completely devastated by injury. Even with their weakened team San Antonio has still been extremely competitive in games. They’re like the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Wow you guys don’t look as good without Parker and Mcdyess.
“It’s just a flesh wound!”
You don’t have Tim or Manu either though.
“‘Tis but a scratch!”
San Antonio is hurt but still very much alive and Tim, Tony, and Manu are supposed to return to the lineup tonight. Boston doesn’t look much better having lost 7 of their last 12 games. Some of their size and most of their attitude got traded away when they moved Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City at the trade deadline. Boston always gets up for big games though so I wouldn’t count them out.
The second game of the night involves the Los Angeles Laker and the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers have just one loss since the all-star break and have been on a roll. When that team is clicking I believe that they are the best team in the NBA. With that being said Dallas has been a pesky team for LA to beat. Tyson Chandler gives them enough size to be a bother and Dirk is always around to do what Dirk does, which is be an extremely tall guy with ridiculous shooting range. The Lakers are 3.5 games behind the Spurs and Dallas is .5 of a game behind them so this is not just a race to second. It may very well be a race to first.
All thing being considered I’ll spend most of my time watching the Dodgers and the Giants play some baseball.
